Drive Up Nitrate Screening
Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department is teaming up with Country Visions and Rick’s Piggly Wiggly to offer a FREE “drive-up” nitrate screening the week of August 24-28, 2020. Bring ½ cup well water in a clean bottle to the Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm all week, or to one of 5 onsite screening locations across Manitowoc County from 2:00 – 6:00pm. Nitrate, a compound of nitrogen and oxygen, naturally occurs at low levels in our environment. It can also enter groundwater at significantly higher concentrations from fertilizers, manure, septic systems, and sewage treatment practices. Private well owners are encouraged to have their water tested every year. Exposure to high nitrate levels in drinking water can be dangerous to your health, and is particularly harmful to infants and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
Screening Sites include:
Monday August 24: Mishicot Country Store
Tuesday August 25: Branch C-Store
Wednesday August 26: Reedsville Country Store
Thursday August 27: Valders C-Store
Friday August 28: Rick's Piggly Wiggly
