I-43 resurfacing and bridge replacement

Location/limits: I-43, Clover Road in Clover to Point Creek Road in Cleveland

Length: 6.5 miles

Schedule: March 20, 2017 to November 2017

Cost: $9.4 million

Description of work: I-43 work will consist of concrete base patching of mainline and milling 2-inches of asphalt pavement and placing 4-inches of new asphalt pavement, concrete overlay on bridge structures, signing, pavement marking concrete overlay on bridge structures. Ramp patching and resurfacing work at County C interchange, bridge replacement of northbound I-43 bridge at Point Creek Road and bridge replacement of southbound I-43 bridge over County U/Newton Road.

May 15 to May 19: Crews will continue building falsework for the deck on the new southbound I-43 bridge over Newton Road. Crews will finish milling and begin asphalt paving on the southbound lanes of I-43. Crews will continue joint replacement on the Point Creek Road overpass.

May 22 to May 26: Crews will pour the deck on the new southbound I-43 bridge over Newton Road. Crews will continue asphalt paving on the southbound lanes of I-43. Crews will continue joint replacement on the Point Creek Road overpass.

Traffic impacts: There will be only one lane of traffic open on northbound and southbound I-43 for the majority of the project. Expect travel delays during peak travel times. Various ramps will be closed during the project. Current or upcoming closures are listed below.

  • March 20, 2017 to November 2017: I-43 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Point Creek Road and Silver Creek Road.
  • March 24 to July 2017: Southbound I-43 on-ramp from County C CLOSED.
  • March 27 to June 2017: County U (Newton Road) CLOSED under I-43 while bridge replacement takes place.
  • April 10 to mid-July: Point Creek Road over I-43 CLOSED.
  • Park and Ride at County C/I-43 will close for resurfacing near the end of the project.

Detour: During I-43/County C ramp closures, motorists will be directed to use the I-43/US 151 interchange ramps to the north or the I-43/County XX interchange ramps to the south. No detour will be posted for local road closures.
